Calculator

  1. Fraction One: enter a fraction in the format a/b (e.g., 3/4) or a decimal number (e.g., 0.5 or .25)
  2. Fraction Two: enter the second value as either a fraction in the format a/b (e.g., 1/3) or a decimal number (e.g., 0.75)

Results

  1. Step 1: the original division. A decimal is converted to a common fraction
  2. Step 2: flip the second fraction and change the division to a multiplication
  3. Step 3: multiply the numerator of fraction one by the numerator of the flipped fraction two multiply the denominator of fraction one by the denominator of the flipped fraction two and apply the correct sign to the results
  4. the result as a fraction
  5. the result in decimal format

Example of Fraction Division

Dividing a fraction with a fraction works differently than multiplying with fractions.
1/2 ÷ 3/4
This involves two steps.
Step 1: change the division to a multiplication
1/2 * 3/4
Step 2: flip the numerator with the denominator of the second fraction.
1/2 * 4/3
numerator * numerator 1 * 4 = 4
denominator * denominator 2 * 3 = 6
and the result of this calculation is
1/2 ÷ 3/4 = 1/2 * 4/3 = 4/6 = 2/3
