Logging
Burt's Quarter Girth Method
A version based on the Hoppus method known as the Burt's Quarter Girth Method formula for calculating the true volume of a log.
Burt's Quarter Girth Formula
Formula used:
V = G² ÷ 4 * L ÷ 113
V = volume
G = girth measured mid length of the log
L = length of log in feet
Calculation
- the length of the log in feet
- the circumference of the log taken mid-length measured in inches
Result
- volume of log
Burt's Average Diameter
Formula used:
V = ((Dt + Db) ÷ 2 )² * L ÷ 183
V = volume of log
Dt = diameter top end log
Db = diameter large end of log
L = length of log
Calculation
- the length of the log in feet
- diameter large end of log
- diameter top end of log
Result
- volume of the log
