# Estimating Cubic Metres of Wood Needed for Pulp

Calculate the volume of wood needed in cubic metres to make pulp.

##### Formulas used:
`Pod ÷ Y = Wod`
where Pod = oven-dry weight of pulp
Y = yield factor
Wod = oven-dry weight of wood
`Wod ÷ Sgd = V`
Wod = oven-dry weight of wood
Sgd = species density
V = volume in cubic metres

##### Sample calculation
Need 1000 kg of oven-dry pulp
Species basic specific gravity, Quaking Aspen = 0.35
Yield factor = 45%
```1000 ÷ 0.45 =  2,222.2 lbs of wood material needed
2,222.2 ÷ (0.35 * 1000) = 6.35 m³```
It would require 6.35 cubic metres of wood to make 1000 kg of pulp
