Hip Roof Wood Shingles

This calculator is designed to help you estimate the total number of wood shingles needed for a hip roof, including considerations for waste, starter strips, and ridge capping. It simplifies calculating roofing materials, ensuring you have the right amount for your project.

The wood shingles calculation is based on:

-Shingles coverage of one roofing square (100 sqft) = 4 bundles @ 5" exposure
-One bundle covers 25 square feet @ 5" exposure. 
-It adds one bundle for every 60 lineal feet of perimeter starter course.
-It adds one bundle for every 25 lineal feet of ridge and hips.
-If you are planning to use premade capping for the ridge, subtract the amount for the ridge from the total bundles needed.
