A Distance in Miles and Speed in Feet per Minute

Calculate the time it takes to ride, walk, swim, or run a certain distance in miles based on a speed in feet per minute.

You must ensure consistency in units to calculate the time it takes to travel a distance given in miles at a speed provided in feet per minute.

  1. enter the distance in miles
  2. the speed in feet per minute

  1. the distance in miles converted to kilometres
  2. the feet per minute converted to metres per minute
  3. the time in minutes
  4. the time in decimal hours
  5. the time in hour, minute, and second format

time = distance ÷ speed
one mile (mi) = 1.609344 kilometres (km)
one mile (mi)	= 5280 feet (ft)
one hour (hr) = 60 minutes (min)
one foot per minute (ft/min) = 0.3048 metres per minute (m/min)
Example Calculation
How long will it take to run 10 miles at a speed of 68 feet per minute?
First, convert the 10 miles to a distance in feet;
5280 * 10 = 52800
10 miles equals 52800 feet

Divide the distance of 52800 feet by the speed of 68 feet per minute to get the time in minutes;
52800 ÷ 68 = 776.471
It will take 776.5 minutes to travel the 10 miles at a speed of 68 feet per minute.

Convert to decimal hours by dividing by 60 (there are 60 minutes in one hour);
776.471 ÷ 60 = 12.94117
The time in hours equals 12.941 hr. = 12 hr - 56 min - 28 sec
