Spike's Calculators

About Us

Spikevm.com was originally intended to be a Website about our dog Spike. Sadly he passed away a few years ago.

Steps Involved in Building a House went online about 2004. The original material is still there and is a bit outdated for the ever changing world of residential building. But in general the steps are still the same. Over time these steps will be updated.

A few years later we added concrete volume calculators. There are many of these calculators available online but we do have a few unique ones.

At this time we are adding some additional calculators that should help in estimating the amount of materials needed for various items of the building process.

I have been employed in residential, light commercial and institutional construction for 40 years, working for various companies and as a general contractor. By adding some "how to do things" I hope to share some of my experience in the hope that some of the problems that you run in to when building your home can be eliminated. All the How To's that you find on this Website are the way I would do it. It is not the only way to do it and I am sure some very "knowledgeable" people have different and better ways of doing things. It is amazing how many things that I have learned and improved in the years of working with other people and I am sure I will learn new and better ways in the years to come.

If you would like to see some different calculators, I am open to your suggestions.
