Logging

Volume of Standing Trees Using the Doyle Log Scale

Spike VM

Approximate the board foot volume of a tree using the Doyle log scale.
Board foot value results are for Girard form class 78, the most commonly used class.

Instead of using "merchantable height" in 16-foot logs this calculator uses the merchantable height of the tree from a one-foot stump height to where main stem diameter equals a specified limit. The diameter measured @ breast height (4.5 feet) in inches.

Doyle Log Rule for Standing Tree

Merchantable Tree Height ft
Tree Diameter @ Breast Height inch

Results:

Board Foot Volume Doyle bf
