The Doyle Log Rule Multi-Log Calculator lets you estimate total board feet from multiple logs using the traditional Doyle scaling rule. This tool is designed for mobile and desktop use and supports copying history, live total updates, and CSV export.

How to Use:

Click Add Log to enter multiple logs.
Input the length and diameter of each log.
Click Calculate to view board feet per log and total.
Use Copy History or Download CSV to save your results.

Calculation History

Calculator

  1. Length (ft): enter the log length in feet
  2. DIB (in): small-end diameter inside bark in inches (must be > 4")

Results

  1. Board Feet: Calculated per log using the Doyle Rule
  2. History: Each entry is shown in a live text for copy or download
  3. Total Board Feet: Automatically summed and displayed

Doyle Log Rule Formula

\[ \text{Board Feet} = \frac{(D - 4)^2 \cdot L}{16} \]

Example Calculation

Given:

  • \( D = 12 \, \text{in} \)
  • \( L = 16 \, \text{ft} \)

\[ \begin{align*} \text{Board Feet} &= \frac{(12 - 4)^2 \cdot 16}{16} \\ &= \frac{8^2 \cdot 16}{16} \\ &= \frac{64 \cdot 16}{16} \\ &= 64 \end{align*} \]
