Isosceles Trapezoid Slab Concrete Volume

Isosceles Trapezoid

The Isosceles Trapezoid Slab Concrete Volume Calculator is an essential tool for accurately estimating the concrete required for an isosceles trapezoid-shaped slab. This calculator helps construction professionals and DIY enthusiasts calculate the total concrete volume needed for a slab with a unique trapezoidal shape, commonly used in foundations, patios, and walkways where a straight, angled side profile is desired.

Note:
An isosceles trapezoid is a trapezoid with one pair of parallel sides and two equal non-parallel sides.

Calculator

  1. enter the length of Length 1 in feet
  2. the length of Length 2 in feet
  3. the height in feet
  4. the slab thickness (depth) in inches

Results

  1. the area of the slab in square feet
  2. the perimeter of the slab in lineal feet for forming material
  3. the amount of concrete needed in cubic feet
  4. concrete needed in cubic yards
  5. required concrete in cubic metres

Conversions
one cubic foot (ft³) = 0.037037037037037 cubic yards (yd³)
one cubic foot (ft³) = 0.028316846592 cubic metres (m³)
Formula and Example Calculation
Base Length 1 = 8 feet
Base Length 2 = 12 feet
Vertical Height = 6 feet
Slab Depth = 4 inches
The Area of a Isosceles Trapezoid:
Area=((Length 1 + Length 2) * Height) / 2
where:
Length 1 and Length 2 are the lengths of the parallel sides of the trapezoid.
Height is the perpendicular distance between Length 1 and Length 2.
Area = (12 + 8) * 6 ÷ 2
Area = 20 * 6 ÷ 2 = 120 ÷ 2 = 60 square feet
The Perimeter of an Isosceles Trapezoid:
Both slanted sides of the trapezoid (left and right) are assumed to be of equal length due to symmetry.
L= √((Base Length 2 - Base Length 1) / 2)² + (Vertical Height)²
where:
Base Length 2: The longer of the two parallel sides.
Base Length 1: The shorter of the two parallel sides.
L= √((12 - 8) ÷ 2 )² + (6)²
L= √(2)² + 6²
L= √40 = 6.32 feet
Perimeter = BaseLength 1 + Base Length 2 + 2 * L
Perimeter = 12 + 8 + 2 * 6.32 = 12 + 8 + 12.64 = 32.64 feet
Calculate the Volume of Concrete Needed:
The volume V of concrete is the area multiplied by the depth (converted to feet):
V = A * depth in feet
Convert depth from inches to feet:
4 ÷ 12 = 0.3333 feet
60 * 0.3333 = 20 cubic feet
20 * 0.037037037037037 = 0.74 cubic yards
20 * 0.028316846592 = 0.566 cubic metres
Results
Area: 60 square feet
Perimeter : 32.65 feet
Concrete Volume:
Cubic Feet: 20 cubic feet
Cubic Yards: 0.74 cubic yards
Cubic Metres: 0.566 cubic meters

This calculator is an efficient tool for estimating the concrete volume for trapezoid slabs in construction projects.

When Ordering Concrete

This concrete calculator will help you in estimating the amount of concrete needed for your project. The amount given as needed does not include any waste. Depending on your job, we recommend adding anywhere from an extra 4% to 10% to your concrete required calculation to make sure you have enough concrete to finish the job. Ask when ordering the concrete. They will be able to give you a good idea of what is needed.
